Cops Recognize Actor in Horror Movie as Real-Life Fugitive
An actor who played a villain in a low-budget horror movie turned out to be a crook who was wanted by police.
Convicted bank robber Jason Stange had been wanted by police since he fled his halfway house last year.
Authorities arrested Stange after they recognized him in a series of photos that accompanied a news story about “Marla Mae,” a low-budget horror film shot in Washington state.
Stange, who had been calling himself “Jason Strange,” played a villainous abortion clinic doctor in the film.
Producer Brandon Roberts said Stange was “a great guy” and a talented actor who had “really nailed the audition” for the part of Dr Lourdes, an abortion clinic doctor who commits a deranged act.
“Everyone really liked him a lot,” Roberts told the Tacoma News Tribune. It is understood first-time director Lisa van Dam-Bates, who also plays Marla, has decided to keep Stange’s scenes in the movie.
