The Associated Press is under fire after it published a series of photos which show a pistol pointed at Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s head.

The photos were taken at a “Celebrate the 2nd Amendment Event” at the CrossRoads Shooting Sports in Johnston, Iowa this weekend.

Charlie Neibergall captured the photos, which show the 2016 presidential contender speaking in front of a poster of a pistol, which is pointed at his head.

The Associated Press has since removed the photos. AP said in a statement:

"Five of the photos published by AP included images of guns seen on a wall in the background so that it appeared a pistol was pointed at Sen. Cruz’s head. The images were not intended to portray Sen. Cruz in a negative light.”
