Police are crediting social media for helping them locate the parents of a three-year-old boy who was found wandering alone on the streets of Arlington, Virginia.

After a passerby noticed the child alone Saturday afternoon, the Arlington County Police Department picked the boy up and sent out a tweet with his picture asking if anyone could identify him.

A former neighbor recognized the boy's photo and called the father.

Each parent thought the boy was with the other, police said.

The child has been turned over to Child Protective Services.
