A Texas homecoming queen was tragically killed in raging floodwaters this weekend while driving home from the prom.

Alyssa Ramirez was driving home from San Antonio on Sunday after a night at the prom when her car was swept away in the floodwaters. She was killed just miles from her home.

Her aunt, Roberta Ramirez, said the teen called 911 and her father, but they couldn’t locate Alyssa until the morning.

“[Her parents] rest assured that she was a very strong believer and so she has her place in heaven where they’ll meet her again soon,” Ramirez said.

Alyssa was a cheerleader and graduating senior who will be remembered for her smile, her aunt said.
