In his Talking Points Memo, Bill O'Reilly addressed the terror attack at a "Draw Muhammad" event in Texas and said that we must defeat the jihad by not being dumb.

O'Reilly pointed out that there is now a controversy over whether the anti-Muslim group that held the event did a foolish or noble thing.

O'Reilly noted an email he received from a viewer named Mike that called for more anti-Muslim events like the one in Garland, Texas.

O'Reilly disagreed, asserting that insulting the entire Muslim world does not advance the cause of liberty, nor does it get us any closer to defeating the jihad.

He pointed out that some Muslim countries, such as Jordan and Egypt, are now fighting ISIS and Al Qaeda themselves.

"Do you think it's a smart strategy to insult the Muslim countries of Jordan and Egypt by besmirching their religious icon? Do you?" O'Reilly asked.

O'Reilly agreed that the anti-Muslim group in Texas is entitled to insult Muhammad because of freedom of speech.

"But again, it's stupid. It accomplishes nothing," O'Reilly said.

He reiterated that he believes that jihadis deserve to be "neutralized, removed from the planet," but stated that insulting a religion with more than a billion followers simply does not advance the cause of defeating fanatical jihadists.

"It hurts the cause," O'Reilly said. "Does it not?"
