Police in Seattle responded to a bizarre scene on May Day when they were tasked with freeing a shirtless, hammer-wielding man from a basketball hoop.

Nearly a dozen police tried to rescue the flailing man from the hoop at Cal Anderson Park.

Firefighters eventually climbed a ladder to cut the net and free him.

Police comically tweeted that the man might be arrested for goal-tending.
