The president of Quinnipiac University issued an apology for his appearance at a huge off-campus party after the video was posted online.

With students appearing to be drinking, John L. Lahey took the mic at a "May Weekend" party. He joked that he banned "May Weekend" 15 years ago, but apparently the word hadn't gotten out.

But he touched a nerve when he joked about being unaware of student parties on that street, telling them, "I'm going to have to buy all these houses."

The students enjoyed the cameo, chanting his name and then urging him to dance with them near a DJ booth.

Lahey later apologized because rowdy off-campus parties have been a sore spot with locals.

"In speaking to students at the house party, and in an obvious but ill-advised attempt to be humorous with them, I unfortunately made light of what is clearly a serious matter with respect to off-campus student housing in Hamden. I deeply regret having made these remarks, for which I sincerely apologize," Lahey said in a statement.
