Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tonight sounded off on his critics in the media following his announcement that he will run for president in 2016.

“The media historically paints two caricatures of Republicans: we’re either stupid or evil […] I guess I take it as a little bit of a backhanded compliment that the media has to some extent invented a third caricature for me, which is crazy,” Cruz said.

The 2016 contender said that media outlets “do everything they can to paint me as a wild-eyed lunatic with dynamite strapped to my chest.”

Cruz said that the “media gatekeepers” are hopeless but that social media, the Internet, Fox News and other outlets will allow him to go directly to the people with the truth.
