Driverless Car Begins Cross-Country Road Trip Today
A self-driving car is departing on a cross-country road trip today.
Delphi Automotive's driverless vehicle is making the 3,500-mile journey from California to New York, the longest distance an unmanned car has ever attempted in North America.
The automated Audi will be tested in different weather, terrain and road situations, which will help gather valuable data for researchers.
The car is reportedly able to navigate four-way stops, merge onto highways and even maneuver around bicyclists, all by itself.
There will be a driver behind the wheel for the coast-to-coast trip in case of an emergency, but they will not touch the wheel unless they have to.
