Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) announced on Fox and Friends a day ago that he'll challenge Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) for Speaker of the House as the new Congress convenes in D.C.

Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) also announced he will put his hat in the ring, though Boehner's officer said in a statement that the Speaker expects to be re-elected as he was in November.

Martha MacCallum challenged Gohmert this morning on his plan, asking him, "why are you doing this?"

MacCallum noted that Gohmert appears to face long odds to defeat Boehner and pressed him on what he hopes to accomplish.

Gohmert responded that he believes more and more Americans are moving toward abandoning the current Republican Party and wants the GOP to change its strategy.

Gohmert said Republicans have not kept their promises under Boehner's leadership, identifying the "flat tax" movement as one area where the party has not followed through.

Watch the interview above, and hear more from Gohmert, tonight at 10p/1a ET on Hannity.
