Tiger Selfies, Tossing Food in Trash Become Illegal in Some States in 2015
A new year means new laws for some Americans.
In 2015, it becomes illegal in New York to take photos with lions, tigers and other big cats due to growing popularity of “tiger selfies,” which are popular profile photos on online dating sites. Animal advocates say it’s dangerous for both humans and animals.
In Seattle, throwing food in the garbage becomes illegal; residents are now expected to compost, or they could face a fine.
Students in Nevada who habitually skip school could have their driver’s licenses suspended.
Cities and states in Utah can no longer ban specific dog breeds.
California is implementing the “yes means yes,” law, which former prosecutor Dan Conaway said “turns the burden of proof standard on its head.” If someone is accused of sexual assault, he or she must prove that the other party said “yes.”
