Activists in Colorado want marijuana users to be able to obtain concealed carry gun permits.

Is this the right move? The man leading the charge to overturn the concealed carry ban debated this today with the Colorado State Shooting Association president.

“For us, it’s about equal rights for all gun owners. This is about individual liberty and restoring that individual liberty, taking it away from the federal government and giving it back to the people of Colorado,” Edgar Antillon, organizer for Colorado Campaign for Equal Gun Rights, said.

Tony Fabian, president of Colorado State Shooting Association, explained that federal laws trump state laws under the supremacy clause of the Constitution.

“Until this dichotomy in the law is resolved, marijuana possession – at least under federal law – is still illegal. And therefore, we have a problem.”
