Cardinal Dolan said much like the days grow longer after the shortest, darkest day of the year, Dec. 21, the darkness in the world will soon be replaced by light.

"Men and women are innately resilient, we're innately hopeful. And I think God has planted that within. And the darker the time, the more that light comes through."
