As the nation reels in the wake of the brutal murders of two NYPD officers, President Obama is away on a 17-day vacation to Hawaii.

On "On The Record" tonight, Greta Van Susteren asked if the president should cut his vacation short to deal with the crisis.

ABC News political director Rick Klein said that Obama should deliver a statement, as opposed to returning to the White House.

"I think this is the kind of thing where you look for some kind of leadership, to follow up, if nothing else, after what he talked about after Staten Island, after what he talked about after Ferguson," Klein said.

"If a beheading doesn't interrupt the golf schedule, it's not terribly likely that anything else terrible is going to interrupt his vacation schedule," Jim Geraghty remarked.

Geraghty added that if, God forbid, there is another attack on cops in New York City, then Obama better immediately get on a plane and come back to deal with the situation.
