Fox News reporter Lea Gabrielle traded in her Navy F/A-18 Hornet for a Cessna 172. To compare, the Hornet's top speed is 1,200 mph and costs about $30 million, while the single-engine Cessna goes up to 120 mph and costs about what the average American spends on a new car.

Calling flying the "ultimate freedom" and symbolic of what it means to be an American, Lea set out across America. She's no longer in the Navy, so she needed to get her plane from California to her new home in New York.

And who was her co-pilot? None other than Happening Now host and avid flyer Jon Scott. He also worked the camera.

Watch some of the journey above and see more from Lea, weekdays at 3p ET on Shepard Smith Reporting.

We'll see more of Lea and Jon's trip, tomorrow morning on Fox and Friends.
