On today’s Outnumbered, Andrea Tantaros, Sandra Smith, Jedediah Bila, Ainsley Earhardt and #oneluckyguy Geraldo Rivera discussed reports that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is willing to offer free housing and legal services for up to 1,000 undocumented minors who have been apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Chicago Resident: 'Obama Will Go Down as Worst President'

Smith noted the terrible unemployment rate and other issues already facing Chicago and asked who’s going to pay for these children and all the services they will need.

Tantaros pointed to Chicago’s alarming crime epidemic. “[These immigrants] are arguing that their home countries are so unstable and so unsafe. And Chicago is any better?” she asked. “How is Rahm Emanuel going to protect these kids? He can barely protect his own citizens.”

Bila said there will be backlash to Emanuel’s plan with people who want priority to go to Americans and the focus to be on fixing the problems we are already facing.

Rivera disagreed, saying that Chicago is not only a compassionate city, but a large one, and 1,000 children using legal, housing and other services will hardly be noticed. He added this country was built on the backs of immigrants.

Tantaros, the daughter of an immigrant, agreed but stated that “the United States of America is where the priority should be.”
