Dore Gold, advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke to Shepard Smith by phone today about the ground operation launched in the Gaza Strip.

Gold said that underground attack tunnels in Gaza could allow for a land invasion by Hamas into Israel.

“Israel is completely justified to exercise its right of self-defense to destroy these land attack tunnels which Hamas yet again exploited now and which must be completely disrupted.”

Smith asked Gold: Once Israel goes into the Gaza Strip, how will it get out?

“I think it’s a little early for that,” he said.

“It’s not too early for that because that’s something you have to consider before you go in anywhere, you have to figure out how to get out,” Smith said.

“Yeah and you also have to figure out how to defend your country,” Gold fired back, explaining that Israel has been under constant rocket fire.

“Basic common sense calls for an Israeli action to bring this rocket fire to a close, but now also to dismantle the large tunnel system that Hamas has constructed […] We will not stand for an invasion of Israel, period.”

Gold said Hamas is a jihadi organization which is not much different from ISIS, and its capabilities must be dismantled.

“After you’ve done that, peace comes through strength and not just through a hopeful wish,” he said.
