'YMCA' Performance Pulled For Being Racist?
Has "YMCA" ever struck you as a racist tune?
A first grade class in Fargo, North Dakota will no longer be singing the famous song at their talent show after a parent dubbed the performance “racist.”
The teacher asked participating students to wear costumes resembling members of the popular ‘70s American disco group the Village People: a policeman, cowboy, biker, construction worker and a Native American.
But Elaine Bolman, a mother of one of the students, was offended by the stereotypical Native American dress saying, “[Hopefully the school] can make the right choices so all students of any culture and race won’t feel singled out or like their race is being stereotyped against.”
The performance was ultimately cut from the talent show.
