Maine ATM Spits Out $37K in Cash, ‘Code Error’ Blamed
A TD Bank in Maine says a “code error” is to blame after a malfunctioning ATM spit out $37,000 to a customer.
Police in South Portland say a woman called them Thursday morning to say that a man was spending a long time at the ATM she was waiting to use. Officers found him stuffing cash into a shopping bag.
Bank officials say the money was returned, and no customer accounts were affected.
The bank does not wish to press charges.
