Today on America's News HQBill Hemmer spoke with Fox News Strategic Analyst Lt. Col. Ralph Peters about the Obama administration's response to the Ukraine crisis.

Obama Urges Putin to Pull Back Troops From Ukraine Border During Phone Call

He reacted to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's statement that, "We decided that if we step back and lower our voice, others will lead, others things will fill the vacuum."

Rice was sounding off on American foreign policy, stating she believes it lead to the situation in Ukraine. Peters agreed by saying, "When the United States retreats from the far frontiers of freedom, the enemies of freedom move in. It happens as naturally as water runs down hills."

Peters went on to say that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a guy that would be pushing anyway, but now he's pushing without finding resistance.

"There's no question that the utterly, wimpy, pathetic, ineffectual Western response to the theft of Crimea, only encourages Putin. He's dismissing everything we're doing because it doesn't hurt," Peters said.
