Officials: Train Operator in Chicago Derailment Fell Asleep for 2nd Time
Authorities say the operator of a train that crashed under Chicago's O'Hare Airport had fallen asleep. In an even more incredible twist, the female operator had actually dozed off at the controls less than two months ago.
In the prior incident on Feb.1, the woman passed by a stop due to fatigue. According to the Chicago Tribune, Chicago transit officials gave her a written warning after she claimed she had only closed her eyes for a second, not actually fallen asleep.
Dozens of passengers were injured in the crash, though none of the injuries were said to to be severe.
Luckily the accident occurred in the early morning hours Monday, before the morning rush began at the airport. The train sped right through its stop point, and ended up crashing into a platform escalator.
