A news helicopter for KOMO-TV, an ABC affiliate, crashed this morning in downtown Seattle, Washington near the historic Space Needle. The Seattle Fire Department says two people were pronounced dead at the scene and one man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

UPDATE, 12:05p ET: Police have confirmed that the two people killed were on the helicopter. Fox News’ Dan Springer reported that the chopper hit three vehicles on the ground. Police are still searching for one person who was hit in a truck.

Springer spoke to a witness who saw the crash while working on the 22nd story of a building. He said the helicopter appeared to be heading over the traffic for its normal route when it tilted and crashed to the ground.

According to AP, the station says the chopper was apparently coming in for a landing on its rooftop Tuesday morning when it went down, hit several vehicles and exploded. People in the area reported seeing a huge cloud of smoke as firefighters and police responded.
