The man accused of holding three women captive in his Cleveland home for over a decade pleaded not guilty in an Ohio courtroom on Wednesday.

During the hearing, the judge instructed the suspect, 53-year-old Ariel Castro, to raise his head and open his eyes as an expanded indictment was read. In the indictment, Castro was charged with 512 counts of kidnapping and 446 counts of rape, among other crimes.

The judge left his bond at $8 million.
