In a recent MSNBC clip, host Martin Bashir claimed Republicans are using the IRS targeting scandal as "just another excuse" to bash President Obama. But the liberal newsman didn't stop there ... he took it a giant step further, drawing race into the picture.

"Despite the complete lack of any evidence linking the president to the targeting of Tea Party groups, Republicans are using it as their latest weapon in the war against the Black man in the White House," he said.

On today's America's Newsroom, Martha MacCallum brought in former adviser to Bill Clinton Doug Schoen and conservative columnist Monica Crowley for their reactions. Democrat Schoen called the comments "horrific."

"You don't have to be a Democrat or Republican to call it horrific," he said, adding that for Bashir to "interject race into the process" of questioning the IRS and uncovering what role the White House did or did not play in abuses of funds or power is "abhorrent."

"My skin is crawling," he said.

So, does Bashir's take on the scandal mean he's fine with everything being revealed about the IRS, she inquired of Crowley?

"What he can't argue on the merits, he has to go to the refuge of the far Left," Crowley responded. And while she agreed with Schoen that Bashir's talking points were heavily disturbing, they're also heavily destructive.

"[They're] contributing to a corrosive aspect of what's happening in our country [in regards to race]," she said.
