Sacramento high school valedictorian Lloyd Chen's story could have gone very differently if it weren't for his good fortune of having a mother willing to go to any lengths to make sure her son could attend school.

Because his mother, Susie, didn't have enough gas money to drive her son back and forth from Laguna High School, Lloyd's mother waited in the parking lot each day for him to finish his classes.

"She's definitely always been there for me and supported me ... Whatever opportunities are available to you, just make sure you take advantage of them," said Chen.

Chen graduated with a 4.79 GPA and got a free ride to nine schools, choosing Harvard University as his college destination. Not too shabby, if we do say so ourselves. Way to go Lloyd and Susie!
