Judge: Testimony in Zimmerman Trial Will Be Public
A judge on Thursday denied George Zimmerman's defense team's request to let witnesses testify in private after claiming fears about their personal safety. Local media in the Florida region, however, expressed opposition. George Zimmerman is set to stand trial for the murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
"It's not a private proceeding; it's public property," countered Rachel Fugate, Orlando Sentinel attorney. "Witnesses don't get to come to court and testify anonymously unless there are very compelling reasons..."
Today on America's Newsroom, Judge Alex Ferrer reacted to the decision and upcoming murder trial, set to begin on Monday with juror selection.
