A dramatic scene unfolded yesterday in Portland, Oregon, where a utility worker was trapped for nearly four hours in a collapsed trench. It all started at about 11:00a local time when 20-year-old Danny Russu became buried at the bottom of a 12-foot hole while he and other workers were doing routine work on a sewer line.

A co-worker described Russu as a very religious guy, saying he was "literally shouting prayers" from the bottom of the narrow trench until emergency crews finally got him out.

Russu was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
