Florida Crime Lab Chemist Accused of Stealing Thousands of Painkillers
A Florida crime lab chemist is accused of stealing painkillers confiscated in drug busts, potentially jeopardizing thousands of cases.
Fox News’ Phil Keating reported that the chemist supposedly replaced pain pills with over-the-counter medicine such as aspirin.
The man, who is under investigation, could have jeopardized 2,600 drug cases, both convictions and others that are still pending.
Florida law enforcement has been cracking down on prescription drug abuse over past two years after the state earned the reputation of being the “pain clinic capital of the country.”
The chemist, who worked for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement at the Pensacola crime lab, has not been charged at this time. He is suspected of stealing the pills to sell other people or use them himself.
