Expired Food to Get New Shelf Life at Massachusetts Grocery Store
Is this a good idea or just plain stale? Former Trader Joe’s President Doug Rauch is launching a Massachusetts grocery store that will sell expired food.
The Dorchester, Mass. store and restaurant, which will be called The Daily Table, will sell food that is past its “sell-by,” “best-by” and “use-by” dates. It will open in May.
The store will also sell food with damaged packaging, as well as prepared meals made from the expired goods.
Through this idea, Rauch hopes to make healthy food available to the working poor.
Each year, $165 billion worth of food is thrown away nationwide.
