UPDATE: Gov. Christie will hold a press conference at 11a ET Thursday. You can watch on Fox News Channel.

A shocking new report suggests that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s staffers were involved in causing a traffic jam on the George Washington Bridge out of revenge.

For four days, lanes at the GW Bridge from Fort Lee, New Jersey were closed, leaving commuters stuck for hours. They were told it was part of a traffic study. New emails and texts have surfaced showing that members of Christie’s staff were trying to exact revenge on Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich (D) for refusing to endorse the Republican governor for reelection.

Weeks before the incident, a top Christie staffer wrote in an email to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.”

Today, Christie responded in a statement, saying that people will be held responsible for their actions. “What I’ve seen today for the first time is unacceptable. I am outraged and deeply saddened to learn that not only was I misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge. One thing is clear: this type of behavior is unacceptable and I will not tolerate it because the people of New Jersey deserve better.”

Tonight on The Kelly File, Democratic pollster Bernard Whitman called the situation outrageous and disgusting. “Chris Christie has been known to be a bully and this really shows, in fact, that he is a bully.”

Megyn Kelly questioned Whitman on what evidence links Gov. Christie to the actions of his staffers. Whiteman replied, “He created a culture in which it was acceptable for his deputy chief of staff and his direct political appointee to exact political retribution by shutting down traffic on the busiest bridge in the entire world.”
