Judge Orders Settlement Talks Between Hospital, Brain Dead Teen's Family
A federal judge ordered mandatory settlement talks between Children's Hospital Oakland and the family of 13-year-old Jahi McMath.
The teen has been declared legally brain dead by several doctors, and the hospital considers her deceased.
Her family, however, has been battling in court to keep her on a ventilator and they are hoping to move her to another care facility.
The family has also requested that a state court order the hospital to insert a feeding tube.
The family says they have a nursing home willing to take Jahi, but the hospital maintains they have not been contacted by any other facility.
A judge set a Jan. 7 deadline for the family to make alternate arrangements, though previous deadlines have been pushed back.
