On Special Report Thursday, Charles Krauthammer provided a blunt assessment of the state of the Middle East as we head into 2014.
On Egypt, where the situation is worsening by the day, Krauthammer said that the Obama administration has alienated both sides.
"We have managed to make everybody hate us - the [Muslim] Brotherhood, the religious, the secular army, and the secularist opposition. That's quite a feat," he said.
Krauthammer slammed Obama for leading from behind on Libya, leaving "a disaster" that has turned into a staging area for al Qaeda that we have witnessed in action in Benghazi.
If not for French intervention, he pointed out that West Africa would now be under al Qaeda control. Krauthammer criticized Obama for abandoning Iraq, letting al Qaeda move back in and infiltrate Syria.
And he noted that Obama conceded a nuclear bomb to Iran over the objections of Israel, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab states.
"Everybody in the Middle East is asking, where is the United States? And all of this is the result of a deliberate policy of retreat. When America retreats, the bad guys fill the vacuum," said Krauthammer.
