Four American service members were wounded in South Sudan when gunfire hit their aircraft. The troops were trying to evacuate American citizens from a violent area of the war-torn nation.

The four who were injured are reportedly in stable condition.

The White House issued the following statement: “Any effort to seize power through the use of military force will result in the end of longstanding support from the United States and the international community.”

Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee Michael McCaul (R-TX) also condemned the attack. He said, “The United States has been a strong support of South Sudan and we will not tolerate violence against our soldiers who are evacuating American diplomats and aid workers.”
