Dramatic new video has emerged of the IndyCar crash that left driver Dario Franchitti with two broken vertebrae and a broken ankle. Thirteen racing fans were also injured when Franchitti's car tore through the crash fence at the Houston Grand Prix on Sunday.

One spectator, Carl Daniel, captured the incident from his place behind the fence.

"It was literally like a massive explosion had gone off,” said Daniel. "It felt like an explosion in our face and [like] we were hit with rocks and stones," he said.

Franchitti thanked fans for their support Monday.

"Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes," he said in a statement. "They mean a lot to me.  I would also like to send my best to all the fans involved in the accident and hope that everyone is alright."

None of the fans hurt in the incident were seriously injured.
