Outrageous Ex-Montana Teacher Freed After Serving Just 1 Month for Rape of Student
A former Montana teacher who was convicted of raping a 14-year-old student has been released from prison after serving only 30 days.
The sentence handed down to 54-year-old Stacey Rambold triggered a fierce backlash against District Judge G. Todd Baugh, who suggested that the victim, Cherice Moralez, was also to blame.
Moralez committed suicide in 2010, with her mother saying the rape was a significant factor.
Prosecutors, who argued for a minimum of two years in prison for Rambold, have appealed the sentence, but Rambold will remain free until the appeal is heard.
