The sentence handed down to 54-year-old Stacey Rambold triggered a fierce backlash against District Judge G. Todd Baugh, who suggested that the victim, Cherice Moralez, was also to blame.

Moralez committed suicide in 2010, with her mother saying the rape was a significant factor.

Prosecutors, who argued for a minimum of two years in prison for Rambold, have appealed the sentence, but Rambold will remain free until the appeal is heard.
