At today's Benghazi whistleblower hearing, Democrat Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.C.) pressed Mark Thompson, State Department Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism, on a recent report that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tried to cut counterterrorism officials out of the loop following the Sept. 2012 Benghazi attack based on political reasons.

"I do not politicize my job, Madam. I have served under three presidents," he said.

Thompson said that the counterterrorism bureau of the State Department was not left out entirely. But he said his office, which is responsible for responding to crises - like the attack in Benghazi - was left out of subsequent meetings following the attack.

Holmes Norton pointed to statements by one of Thompson's colleagues, who said the report of counterterrorism officials being cut out of the loop was untrue.
