REACT: Memorial Honoring Fallen Soldier and Wife Must Come Down!?
National Park Service says hand-carved bench must be removed from popular Colorado trail.
Staff Sergeant David Dunlap and his pregnant wife Whitney were killed in a violent Colorado home invasion this past January. Soon after their deaths, friends of the Dunlaps decided to make a hand-carved bench in memorial, and the group carried the wooden tribute to the top of a popular trail in a Colorado national park. However, the Park Service now wants the bench moved, saying memorials aren’t allowed in national forests.
A petition has been filed asking the park to allow the bench to stay.
SSG Dunlap was a helicopter mechanic for the post’s 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division.
