From the murder of Tom Clements in Colorado to that of two prosecutors in Texas, violence against law enforcement officials seems to be on a dramatic rise. The latest FBI statistics show the number of law enforcement officials killed annually jumping from 41 in 2008 to 72 in 2011.

Mark Fuhrman believes this is a sign of the times. “We’re looking at really the success in a lot of third world countries of violence against government officials and the police.”

He believes that socio-political influences on police departments make them less proactive and more reactive.
