Pope Francis celebrated his first Easter as the leader of the Catholic Church. An estimated 250,000 people gathered in Saint Peter’s Square on Sunday morning for Mass. The pope called for world peace on the Korean Peninsula and urged both sides to renew a spirit of reconciliation. He also denounced

a greedy affluent world looking for easy gain.

Since being chosen three weeks ago, Pope Francis has placed a special emphasis on helping the poor. The pope broke with tradition during the Holy Thursday service by washing the feet of both men and women.

Christians also gathered in Jerusalem at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where it’s believed that Jesus was resurrected.
