Following the death of Hugo Chavez yesterday, some Democrats and Hollywood actors joined praising Venezuela’s socialist president. Former President Jimmy Carter stated, “Although we have not agreed with all of the methods followed by his government, we have never doubted Hugo Chavez’s commitment to improving the lives of millions of his fellow countrymen.”

Actor Sean Penn said in an interview, “Today the people of the United States lost a friend

it never knew it had. And poor people around the world lost a champion.”

Chavez notably called former President George W. Bush the “devil” in a 2006 speech at the United Nations.

Tonight on Hannity, Michelle Malkin didn’t hold back. “I hope that Hugo Chavez is choking on sulfur right now and rotting in hell.”

Sean Hannity commented, “Sean Penn annoys me, Oliver Stone, they’re just dumb Hollywood actors. […] Jimmy Carter -- that bothers me some.”

Malkin criticized President Obama for not calling Chavez a dictator and went on to say, “While all of these liberal politicians and these Chavistas in Hollywood and the media are heaping praise like an asylum full of propaganda tools and useful idiots, stampeding over themselves to elevate Hugo Chavez, it’s the people of Venezuela who know that he turned their country into a socialist hellhole.”
