An incredible act of sportsmanship helped one special needs student to achieve his dream and sink the shot of his life. Mitchell Marcus, a developmentally disabled student at Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas, spent three years on the bench as the school’s team manager, until he was allowed to suit up with his teammates for the final game of the season.

Marcus’ coach arranged with his teammates to make sure he got the ball in the game’s final moments … but the fairy tale fell short and he missed the basket! The opposing team got the ball, but in an incredible act of sportsmanship, a player from that team passed Marcus the ball. They stood back as he shot four times, finally landing a basket and prompting the crowd to erupt in cheers! Jonathan Montanez, the player on the opposing team who passed Marcus the ball, said, “I was just raised to treat others how you want to be treated. Just to give that other person a chance of an opportunity that he deserves.” Watch the awesome moment:
