Take a look at this new video that aired just minutes ago, as Pope Benedict XVI leaves the Vatican for the final time. The 85-year-old pontiff walked out of the Apostolic Palace and into a car for a short ride to a helicopter for a trip to the papal retreat at Castel Gandolfo, south of Rome.

The pope was

received by a line of cardinals who took turns kneeling before him one final time and bidding him farewell.

Benedict made history this month by becoming the first pope of the modern era to resign.

After arriving at Castel Gandolfo, the pope made one final address. Father Jonathan Morris translated for us.

The papal conclave will soon begin to choose a new pope. Here is a list of those who are thought to be leading contenders.
