Today, an emotional memorial service was held for the man who led Operation Desert Storm, General Norman Schwarzkopf. The general passed away back in December, and Thursday included a service in which friends and admirers remembered his life and service to his country at West Point Academy in West Point, NY.

Among the dignitaries in attendance at the services in the Cadet Chapel were former Vice President Dick Cheney, who was Secretary of Defense during the Persian Gulf War, and former Secretary of State Colin Powell, along with many others who remembered Schwarzkopf as a tough, no-nonsense, frank-speaking leader.

Throughout his 35 years of service, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and is also credited with ending the ground war in Iraq.

A smaller ceremony in the West Point cemetery will take place Thursday afternoon, where his grave will be close to that of his father, who was also a West Point graduate.
