Senator Rand Paul joined America’s Newsroom Wednesday and blasted President Obama’s handling of the looming sequester. “I’m getting kind of annoyed at the president lining up local police officers and saying their jobs will be lost when everybody knows their salaries will be paid by local taxes,” he said.

Paul said that he’s presented the president with a sequester plan that wouldn’t result in any layoffs. The plan would involve not rehiring people who have retired from the government and paying federal workers the same as private workers, initiatives that Paul argues pay for most of the sequester.

The senator himself was able to save $600,000 of his office’s budget by watching every penny. He said he and his staff are very careful about what they spend on things like travel, computers, and ink cartridges.

“We watch it as if it were our own money,” Paul said.
