A Texas teacher has come under fire for a photo of girls in her geography class wearing burqas as part of a lesson Islam. She also apparently told them to refer to terrorists as freedom fighters.

The Lumberton Independent School District issued a statement responding to the incident on Monday, saying, "The lesson that was offered focused

on exposing students to world cultures, religions, customs, and belief systems … Clothing expresses the individual culture. The lesson is not teaching a specific religion, and the students volunteered to wear the clothing."

The principal said he still supports the lesson. This morning on Fox and Friends, Gretchen Carlson talked to Madelyn LeBlanc, a student in the class who wore a burqa, and her mother, April.

Madelyn said the teacher went more in depth with the lesson on Islam, but she repeated that the students volunteered to put on burqas.

April Leblanc said she was more alarmed about the "freedom fighter" aspect of the lesson.
