VIDEO: Hot Air Balloon Catches Fire, Explodes in Egypt, Killing 18 People
In a tragic incident on Tuesday, a hot air balloon exploded in the sky above the city of Luxor, Egypt and fell 1,000 feet to the ground. At least 18 people aboard the balloon were killed after it caught fire and crashed into a sugar cane field below.
Initial reports indicate that the lines going from the balloon's gas canister to the burner began to leak, causing the balloon to catch fire, which then spread to the basket. French, Chinese and British citizens were among the nationalities of those on board who died in the crash. One of the survivors is the pilot, who jumped out of the balloon when it was still feet off the ground.
