A few citizens of Tampa, Florida, got quite a shock earlier this week when they happened upon an 8-foot alligator peeking out from a storm drain.

After calling the authorities, police arrived at the scene of the sighting (which was located just three blocks from an elementary school) only to learn that the gator had

slipped down into the sewer. Using a bucket of vegetable oil, the cops worked with wildlife officials and a couple of brave Tampa civilians to rescue the creature.

Officials intend to transport the animal to an alligator farm.
