Super Bowl XLVII kicks off shortly in New Orleans between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens. Arthel Neville is in New Orleans to explore the city steeped in many spectacular traditions. She visited Darryl Reeves, a master blacksmith who is helping the city keep its distinctive architectural flair.

“So many different styles, so many different nationalities in this city from the Spanish, French, German, Latin – everybody had their own techniques of doing things. […] I learned from all of them,” Reeves said.

He has been a master blacksmith in New Orleans for over

forty years, doing restorations and making custom pieces. Reeves described his passion for the craft, saying, “This is not work for me, this is what I do.”
