Turkey's state-run news agency says Sarai Sierra, the missing mother from Staten Island, New York, has been found dead in Istanbul. Sierra traveled to Turkey by herself on January 7th to take photographs.

According to her family, Sierra was in constant communication with them until January 21st. She was supposed to return home January 22nd, but her husband, Steven Sierra, says she never made it onto her scheduled flight.

Her husband and brother went to Istanbul

to search for her and meet with officials. Sierra and her husband were married for 14 years and have two children together. There are nine people reportedly in custody, but it's unclear whether they are witnesses or suspects.

The Associated Press reports that the private NTV news channel said Sierra was stabbed to death. It said police identified her through her driver license.
