Police Have Open Line of Communication With Suspect Jimmy Lee Dykes as Alabama Hostage Standoff Continues
The Alabama hostage standoff continues for the fifth day. Jimmy Lee Dykes is suspected of killing a school bus driver and taking a 5-year-old boy hostage. Alabama police said in a press conference on Saturday that they have an open line of communication with Dykes.
Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson said Dykes told them he has an electric heater and blankets. Dykes allowed police to provide coloring books, medication and toys for the boy. Officials are working on 24-hour rotating shifts.
The next update is expected to come at 9p local and 10p ET.
Tomorrow, the community will hold a funeral for Charles Albert Poland, Jr., the bus driver who was killed.
